The concept of making use of the outdoors as a management training was first developed by Dr. Kurt Hahn in the 1940’s. Dr. Hahn who was a outdoorsman and a philosopher believed that the outdoors has many lessons for city people. The basic belief of an outbound programme lies in exposing a group of people away from their normal work environment into the outdoors and placing before them new and unfamiliar challenges. How the group responds to these challenges in the new setting is analysed and evaluated for providing an insight to the group’s competencies. This helps in motivating groups towards achieving higher goals at the workplace.
